Migrating your website to WordPress is one of the best decisions you can make for your Pakistani business. WordPress powers over 43% of all websites on the internet, and for good reason — it is flexible, SEO-friendly, and lets you manage your own content without a developer.

Why Migrate to WordPress?

Whether you are currently on Wix, Squarespace, a custom HTML site, or an outdated CMS, WordPress offers clear advantages for Pakistani businesses:

  • Full ownership — you own all your files and data
  • Superior SEO with plugins like RankMath
  • Thousands of plugins for any functionality you need
  • JazzCash and EasyPaisa payment gateway support via WooCommerce
  • A massive global community for support

Step 1: Choose Your Hosting

Before migrating, ensure your new hosting is WordPress-compatible. Most Pakistani hosting providers — Hostinger Pakistan, GoDaddy, and local cPanel hosts — support WordPress. You need at least PHP 8.0 and MySQL 5.7.

Step 2: Export Your Existing Content

Most platforms have an export function. In Wix, go to Settings > Export. In Squarespace, go to Settings > Advanced > Export. For custom HTML sites, you will need to manually copy your text content.

Step 3: Install WordPress

Most cPanel hosting accounts include Softaculous, which installs WordPress in under two minutes. Set your site URL, admin username, and a strong password. Do not use ‘admin’ as your username.

Step 4: Import Your Content

Use the WordPress Importer plugin (Tools > Import) to bring in your exported content. For Wix and Squarespace, you may need a conversion service or do it manually for a small number of pages.

Step 5: Set Up 301 Redirects

This is the most important step for preserving your Google rankings. Every old URL must redirect to its new equivalent. Install the Redirection plugin and map each old URL to the new one. Missing this step can cost you months of SEO progress.

Step 6: Configure SEO

Install RankMath or Yoast SEO. Submit your new sitemap to Google Search Console. Check that your meta titles and descriptions carried over correctly.

Step 7: Test Before Going Live

Test every page, every form, every link, and every image on the new WordPress site before pointing your domain. Use a staging URL or a temporary domain for testing.
